ABOUT THIS SITE

Hi, my name is Cameron. I am a graduate student in the PNW originally from the East Coast. I would by no means consider myself a professional photographer, although I have been shooting pictures wherever I am for the last few years so I wouldn't necessarily consider myself a complete amateur either! I created this site because I love the diversity across the photography visual art medium. I also wanted a place to share my photos and talk with others about new tech, methods, and tips/tricks. I broke this site down into my past collections from places that I have been, a few different blogs regarding my travel and ongoing goals in photography, and a forum attachment for anyone to share their thoughts and ideas. I hope to continue learning and improving my methods as I go, and I am always looking to talk to people who have different experiences from my own!

My VSCO account, while not *entirely* photographs taken only by my cameras (definitely some iPhone shots in there) was the first site/social media platform that truly peaked my interest in getting a bit more serious about photography and seeing what others have to share. VSCO is my go-to for sharing the first images from different shoots/collections once I've gone through them and retouched.

WHAT WE'RE WORKING WITH

A brief overview of my current tech and experience, just for some context and also any advice from people shooting on similar devices or recommendations!

Untitled

DIGITAL

In 2017, I got my first DSLR camera, a step up from the awesome Nikon CoolPix point-and-shoot that I had been using since the fifth grade. I got more into learning about true camera function and the tech behind it when I traveled to Iceland for a study abroad course during the summer of 2018. I continued to shoot with my Nikon D3400 digital camera until May, 2021, when I finally made the switch to mirrorless. I am currently shooting with a mirrorless (Fujifilm X-T4). I kept my Nikon Nikkor lenses, and my prime lens is a Fujifilm 16-84 mm lens. One of my favorite attachments (also pictured) is the Fujifilm shutter release cable, since I am frequently taking snaps of moving water or of the night sky.

FILM

My experience with film is a bit more limited, but growing! I grew up going to summer camps, so I have always had Kodak disposables on hand, and I will always love shooting with those. I more recently decided to upgrade to a true film camera to save a tiny bit instead of constantly replacing disposables. I first purchased a Minolta SRT 101, an awesome starter film camera that is fully manual and does not require batteries, and then I was given a Nikon N60 that my dad purchased with I was a toddler, so that has also been exciting to shoot with. I also have a 70-300 mm lens for the N60, so there are some fun possibilities in terms of distance photos. Another fun challenge is that the coupling meter in my Minolta is jammed, so I get to do the math each time a take a snap to determine matching my aperture and shutter speed (I will definitely get it repaired at some point, but I purchased the camera as used since it was my first film camera buy, so I have been having fun with memorizing the exposure settings).

VIDEO

I by no means consider myself anything above a slightly informed amateur when it comes to shooting videos, but I have always enjoyed stitching together compilations of videos that I have taken wherever I am. I do a lot of outdoor recreation, so I have accumulated a couple of GoPros that have been great due to their weather sealing and ability to withstand the impact of me wiping out on snowboards while holding them. I also more recently purchased an older basic 4k camcorder, just to play around with. The zoom ability on that has been quite fun for filming, but again, filming is quite exclusively, an amateur hobby of mine.

INSTANT

Similar to video, my experience in instant photography is more limited to hobby use. I am currently just shooting with a Fujifilm Instax Wide 300, which is great for general use and user friendliness, but I will likely eventually upgrade to one of the wide film Polaroid models in order to use more features such as self-timing and aperture!
